I'm now doing a lot of flash fiction - something that until recently I'd never done at all. There are now a number of pieces on my blog so if you like this type of fiction, do drop by to https://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/ .

I've started putting the odd flash fiction piece on my blog. I'm finding the discipline of very short pieces is good for my writing.
Here's one.

I'm making my book Three Seasons a free download for the next week or two. Choice of formats. Link: https://claims.prolificworks.com/free...

"A washed-up trawler captain. A sleek young businessman. And the Master of an Oxford college. Through these three characters, all beautifully drawn, Mike Robbins has created a vivid picture of the 1980s, a divisive era of great change."

Thoughts on leaving New York; on the passage of time; on war and remembrance. And why you really should read Virginia Woolf. https://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/2...

I've made my latest book a free download. I'll leave it there for a week or 10 days. Reviews are of course welcome, but mainly I just hope people enjoy the book.

"How will the world see the 20th century a hundred years from now? For many, it was like living right on the edge of a turbulent ocean that threatened to engulf them; and sometimes it did."

Mike Robbins is on page 150 of 261 of A Woman in Berlin: Eight Weeks in the Conquered City: A Diary
This could have been a depressing read but there is a humanity behind the way the author looks at her tormentors. I might need to think quite hard about this book before passing judgment on it.

One of those books where you ask yourself, "What do you know? Were you there?"

Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?
There's no need to be. Thoughts on To the Lighthouse.

I'm pleased to have got a couple of reviews for On the Rim of the Sea - but I'd love to have more. I'll send an e-copy if you are interested in reviewing it (you don't have to commit yourself to doing so). Details of the book here. https://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/2...

After a gap of five years, I've finally written another book.
I am on Goodreads mainly as a reader rather than a writer, and I rarely solicit reviews (and never by DM, which many readers feel is spamming; they have a point). But for what it's worth, the book is here. It's a little unusual in concept, and I hope it'll be of interest.

German writer Norman Ohler had a hit a few years ago with his book Blitzed, which described the Nazis' war on drugs (basically, they were on drugs when they did the war). Ohler has now turned his attention to the German anti-Nazi resistance with his next book, The Bohemians. It has its flaws, but it is gripping. More here.

I'm offering my book Three Seasons as a free download, just for the next week or so. It's a book for which I've always had a certain affection, but it is hard to promote, and I would like people to read it. Here's the link; there's a choice of formats - PDF, EPUB or MOBI. https://claims.prolificworks.com/free...

I'd encourage anyone to check out his own books, too; I've read two so far and enjoyed them immensely.

Slavoj Žižek has published a book about the Coronavirus already. Opportunism - or a genuine "think piece"? I'd say the latter. A review. https://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/2...

Fiction writers are engaging with climate change and the way it's changing our view of the world. I've just read two excellent examples, Kevin Brennan's Eternity Began Tomorrow and Alison Layland's mystery Riverflow - the latter suddenly more relevant than ever after the Severn floods. Do support these two interesting writers. http://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/20...

There's a new book of poetry out from Harry Whitewolf, one of my favourite radical poets. It's called Broken Albion and is free for Kindle today (February 3) and tomorrow. Recommended. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Broken-Albio...

One hundred years ago yesterday, two brave men shrank the world. It was one of the few bright spots in an awful year, yet the anniversary has passed almost unremarked. http://mikerobbinsnyc.blogspot.com/20...
