For quite a long time, I've been frustrated with Goodreads. It can be a case study of how to buy and neglect a platform.

The previous three volumes of this work were painstakingly slow and often monotonous. They were enough to make you unhappy, if not depressed. From this volume, everything starts making sense.

প্রত্যেকবছর নোবেল দেওয়ার পর আমিও একজন করে নতুন লেখকের নাম শুনি যার নাম বাপের জন্মেও শুনিনি। তারপর পড়তে শুরু করলে ভালোও লাগে।

বেশ ভালো লাগছে। এটা আসলেই পড়ার ইতিহাস। মানে বই কীভাবে এলো, পড়া কীভাবে এলো এসব না, মানুষ যুগে যুগে কীভাবে পড়ে আসছে, পড়ার সামাজিক ও মনস্তাত্ত্বিক ইতিহাস।

আরেকটা জিনিস ভয়ে ছিলাম, কখন না কাগুজে বইয়ের গুণগান শুরু করে! মানে, কাগজের বইয়ের গন্ধ না পেলে ভালো লাগে না টাইপের স্নবিশ কথাবার্তা। তা ভদ্রলোক নিজে সিরিয়াস রিডার এবং আমার মত ইলেকট্রনিক বইয়েও কোনো আপত্তি নেই।

এই বইটা পড়তে গিয়ে একটা গল্প মনে পড়ে যায়। দুই ভাই, প্রচণ্ড অমনোযোগী। তাদের শিক্ষক বহুবিধ পদ্ধতিতে তাদের শিক্ষাদানে প্রবৃত্ত। তারই প্রচেষ্টাস্বরূপ তারা সবাই মিলে একদিন আম কুড়োতে গেলো ঝড়ের দিনে। কুড়োনো শেষে শিক্ষক জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, "কতগুলো আম হলো, এসো গুনে দেখি।" বড় ভাই এমনকি সরলমনে গুনতেও শুরু করলো। ছোট ভাই মনে করিয়ে দিলো, "দাদা, আমাদের কিন্তু গুনতে শেখাচ্ছে।"

আমার মনের মধ্যের ছোট ভাই বারবার বলছে, "এটা কিন্তু টেক্সটবুক!

I saw my father reading this book when I was a child. When I was a teenager, someone (can't remember who) criticized my father's taste because he thinks that this book is a pornography. Bearing resentment to my parents as a lot of teenagers do, I thought this be right.

Now, I'm 33% through this book, I'm well aware that this is not a pornography and having a faint notion that this doesn't contain any pornography.

I won't say I'm understanding everything about it. I don't also think all of it makes sense scientifically (that's natural though).

Btw, Goodreads should mark 4 books read for this 1 book.

পদ্যে ফিলোসফি পড়ার অভ্যাস নাই। পদ্যে ছন্দের আশ্রয় নিতে গিয়ে কোনো কোনো জায়গায় বক্তব্যের সাথে কম্প্রোমাইজ করতে হয় কখনো-সখনো।

বিষয়টা সহজ না মনে হচ্ছে।

অনেকেই এই কথা বলে শুনেছি যে রাশিয়ায় মৌলিক দর্শন দার্শনিকদের থেকে না দস্তয়ভস্কি আর তলস্তয়ের উপন্যাসে পাওয়া যায়। আজকাল তার যথার্থতা বেশ ভালোভাবে টের পাচ্ছি।

এই যে অফ্ফ্রেডের যে দুনিয়াটা, যদিও তার রাষ্ট্রধর্ম খৃষ্টীয়, তবুও যদি এটা প্রতিষ্ঠা করা যেত পাদ্রী-পুরুত-মোল্লা সবাই হই হই করে নাচতো আর একে অপরের পিঠ চাপড়াতো, হাই-ফাইভ দিতো।

বলা চলে শুরু করেছি কেবল। প্রথম অধ্যায়টা জ্যাজ-পূর্ববর্তী আফ্রিকান-আমেরিকান মিউজক নিয়ে। আমার একটা ধারণা ছিল যে জ্যাজ ও ব্লুজ্ প্রকাশের ক্ষেত্রে গড়ের ওপর ইমোশনালি কম্প্লেক্স। যখন খুব চটুল জ্যাজ্ বাজে, নীচে কোথাও দুঃখ লুকিয়ে থাকে, পুরো কয়েক জেনারেশানের দাসত্বের দুঃখ। যখন দুঃখ বাজে তখন বিদ্রোহ। ইতমধ্যে মনে হচ্ছে আইডিয়াটা মোটামুটি ঠিকই ছিল।

এই লোকটা যাই-ই করতে গেছে ভালো করেছে। মিউজিক, ম্যাথ, ফিজিক্স, প্রাংক, লকপিকিং...

ট্রস ট্রস করে মারা উচিত।

By far enjoying it. Not only EIC, even if you're interested in the politics of India at that period, then this book is a gold mine.

মানুষ ত‌ো উপন্যাস পড়ে মূলত দুঃখ পেতে, বিষাদগ্রস্থ হতে। তবু, এই বইটা অনেকদিন দূরে সরিয়ে রেখেছি, এখন সাহস করে হাত দিলাম।

This book is intriguing. I don't have much formal education on physics but even I find physics of last few decades less scientific in methodology. Author of this book is building a compelling case against many subjective aspects and judgements of modern physicist community.

পিডিএফ পড়া ভালো লাগে না। কাগুজে বই ঝামেলার। এজন্মে ইপাব বা মোবি পাবো বলে মনে হয় না। অগত্যা পিডিএফেই শুরু করলাম।

প্রথম অংশ পড়া শেষ। ওয়েস্টার্ন ক্ল্যাসিক্যাল মিউজিকের বিভিন্ন সময়ের ফর্ম, কন্টেন্ট, আইডিয়া সম্পর্কে মোটামুটি একটা ধারণা হলো।

দ্বিতীয় অংশ অনেকদিন ধরে পড়া হবে, ১ বছর, বা ২ বছর, যা সময় লাগবে লাগুক। পড়তে হবে, এবং শুনতে হবে সাথে সাথে।

পারতপক্ষে আমি বই মাঝপথে ছাড়ি না। কিন্তু, এই বইটা পড়ে আমি কিছুতেই মজা পাচ্ছি না। লেখার ধাঁচটা ইম্যাচিউর, দীর্ঘ উপন্যাসের জন্য তো উপযোগী নয়ই। তবে, যেহেতু পুরোটা পড়ছি না, রেটিং দেবো না।

কতদূর এগোতে পারবো তা নিয়ে আমার সন্দেহ আছে। লেখার হাত, আমার মতে, নেহায়েতই কাঁচা।
