The Big God Theory is the story of my spiritual journey from depression (after my daughter and I were rejected by my church of 40 years) to joy. My "discovery" that God is bigger may seem obvious on the surface of it, but for anyone who's spent much time in an American church pew, you know that we humans have a history of trying to jam the infinite concept of God into a smaller, safer, and more manageable box whenever possible.

For me, "inspiration" happens...or it does not. If it does not, I go do something else. (And never beat myself up about it!) When it happens, I can't stop writing.

For the past several years I've been trying a spiritual/writing practice I call "Daily Doses." The spiritual part is about beginning my day on a positive note by focusing on a worthy intention for the day. The writing aspect is about learning to be more succinct, so I limit myself to between 250 and 270 words...something which can be read in under two minutes. I'm currently editing the first 365 Daily Doses for a "morning reader" to be published in 2015.

Write! I thought I wanted to be an architectural draftsman, and was even accepted at the Georgia Tech School of Architecture, but when I actually began spending eight hours a day at a drafting table, I learned very quickly that I had only been enamored with the IDEA of being a draftsman. On the other hand, writing books (no matter how long they have taken me) never gets old nor feels like work!

Speaking (in print) about things that matter to me has always driven me. (If someone else enjoys it, and if there's a paycheck involved, that's just icing on the proverbial cake!)

Now that I'm not actively freelancing, and no longer taking assignments, I only write when I'm inspired, and so writer's block is never an issue. Back in the day, I would rather have died than miss a deadline, so I just treated it like any other job that needed doing...and began writing. Yes, I threw away a lot of drivel, but the physical act of writing always led back to getting the mind and heart reengaged in the process.
