The characters that stay with me are the ones who have experienced some kind of trauma but with the help of their love interest are able to overcome it. Those are the characters that make me cry. There have been a few that touched me so deeply that I get misty eyed just thinking about them. The Dark Hunters, Zarek, is one of them, along with his mate. Sapphire Beautiful's main characters also did me. The last couple is from The Shadowhunters by Renee Scattergood. They all had to get past something terrible to be together. That's what draws me in and makes a book memorable.

Thank for your reply! Congrats on writing 12 volumes. It's a daunting task!! I'm on book, 3 but I have tons of notes and chapters written for later books. Working as an office admin and sales asst, I learned all about PowerPoint and Excel, and was thankfully able to apply them to my life. I believe I was working on book one when I realized that a character was going to be killed off in book two, but I had originally planned to keep him indefinitely. Afraid that I would forget when he died, I started the character list. Off course, I have to remember to add new characters when I create them. OneNote became a blessing for reminders instead of sticky notes. Now I don't lose things. Have a great day!!

I had an idea about a young woman who wakes up at Lucifer's feet and is told that she is now his servant. She is handed a fancy, revealing black dress, and is told that she belongs to him now. For years, I was obsessed with the idea. I came at it from different perspectives. I wanted to know who she was, and why she was so special. It took years to nail down the whys and the hows, but I finally merged my different ideas and created an interesting and powerful lead female character worthy of a series.

I love the characters that I have created and I loved to watch them interact with each other. When I'm stuck, I try to change things up and see how they will interact in a different place or with different people. It's like playing with a Barbie when you're a kid. I come up with different scenarios to see what my characters will do. Sometimes it leads to a great storyline and a better understand of who the character really is.

I have been working on this series for over three years and have 12 planned books. I'm putting the final touches on Book 2 "The Third Throne: Angel of Death", and am 3/4 of way through writing the 3rd book, "The Third Throne: Angel of Vengeance". It's a great feeling to finally be able to publish the books I've worked on for so long.

It's easy enough to say, don't give up, but it's important to believe it. I started writing the elements of this first book in college and it was a disaster. I was over thinking things and trying to write in a genre that I wasn't comfortable with. After coming at the story from a different perspective, I was able to solve the problems I was having. I moved from fantasy into paranormal romance and things started happening. I found that it's easier for me to write about handsome angels than about ugly troll-like creatures. You find to write what you enjoy.

The characters that I am writing about have been stuck in my head for years, some as long as 20 years. It's nice to finally lock them down in print so that I can remember their adventures.

Since I am working on a series, I can work on a different books to avoid writer's block. I find that it helps progress the story if I know what will happen in future books. There is always something to write when you have countless characters and stories to work on.
