Seth Ervin Usually, Casey just calls me and says, "Get to work." With enough prodding and poking, writers block doesn't affect me much. These are some of the advantages of coauthorship.
Seth Ervin ALL THE MONEY I MAKE. No...that's definitely not true. The best thing about being a writer is bumping into people who have read my book and gotten some form of enjoyment out of it. Nothing makes me happier than to know that the words that fell from me and Casey's brains actually mean something to someone else or that the characters that we created resonate with real, breathing people. That's an awesome thing to experience.
Seth Ervin To be a writer you must write. If it's really something you aspire to be, then begin writing right now, and discover what lives within you through the craft. Don't beat yourself up about your first, second, third or fourth draft. Embrace that you can always polish your work, or have someone help you learn to polish it better. Nothing is perfect, but perfection is never a requirement to be a writer.
Seth Ervin We've spent this past year working on Keys of Candor: Sea of Souls, the upcoming sequel to The Red Deaths. We've also got several other projects that we are developing, but Candor is where our main focus is at right now.
Seth Ervin The joy of coauthorship is that often we inspire each other in our writing process. I write a bit, and then Casey writes. He writes a bit, and then I add some more. We both create and experience the project moving forward, which is a very fun way to write a book.
Seth Ervin Keys of Candor is the fruit of a long process in discovery writing with my co-author. Casey and I have been a good friend for years, so Keys of Candor is a good mix of all the things we loved growing up: Star Wars, Dune, Lord of the Rings, Greek Mythology, and Biblical stories. There is also a good smattering of dark horror elements woven in (Thank you Stephen King). It took us three years of polishing our main story to arrive at what is currently The Red Deaths, but it's been a fun experience.
