C.D. Major Strange moments really, small things. Even going to get a coffee can spark a small thought that might turn into a big idea. My last book was inspired by anger about how women were treated during COVID..!
C.D. Major A big speculative love story - a time hop that I am LOVING - although it is a NIGHTMARE to plot. I've also just finished a CDMajor book - a chilling horror story set on a remote island in Scotland..!
C.D. Major Finish the draft because then you can edit it. Remind yourself that you wanted to write that story - why did you? Maybe pin that somewhere and look at it. Celebrate any small achievement: a short story place or a chapter completed or a wonderful bit of writing. Try to enjoy it and, if you don't, get out while you can and do something else while you still can..!
C.D. Major Other writers, those mad emails that suddenly send you a Rights deal or a royalty check you didn't know you were going to get, messages from readers who were moved or touched or related to your book. There are so many amazing things about being a writer and I know how lucky I am to do it.
C.D. Major Write in short bursts, try to persuade someone else either IRL or online to write with me. Say I have to write in the evening if I don't do enough in the day. Basically sit down and get over myself - first drafts are rubbish so you just have to keep going even if it is pretty awful..!
C.D. Major The top of the Magic Faraway Tree FOR SURE. One of the Lands where you can eat all the goodies. I LOVED those books and still re-read them.
C.D. Major I am three years late to answer this but I'd love to answer it now..! I am about to start LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY, ONE DAY I SHALL ASTONISH THE WORLD and THE UGLY TRUTH!
C.D. Major This is a great question! I'm not sure I have any deep dark mysteries. I think I could write a decent ghost story about my pre-teen self as various poltergeist things happened to me that my mum loves to share with people!
