Watching my oldest son look into a box of my books the publisher sent. His face lit up when he realized I had written them. He pulled one out and looked at the cover and for about fifteen point five seconds I was cool.

It is a lot like Dave Grohl's advice to aspiring musicians...write...write every day. Then put it down. Reread it later and see if it is what you thought it was going to be. That and edit, edit, edit. Then have someone else read and edit. Welcome the feedback, even the negative stuff...that will help you develop your craft.

I was deployed to Iraq in 2008 and Facebook was new. I started connecting with old friends from Nantucket and was struck by how much I missed the Nantucket of the 1980's. It also seemed to be a great place to use as the setting for a moody detective story.
