Hi Ana, there IS a Spanish translation of Oil and Marble, it's called Leonardo y Miguel Ángel and it was published by Pàmies. There is not a Spanish translation of Raphael at this time! Maybe soon :)

Hi Simon! Sorry it took me 300 years (or 7 months) to see this question. It was lost in the insanity of Goodreads! Anyway, they are totally stand-alone books -- written, obviously in very different styles -- but I AM obsessed with the Italian Renaissance, so... I will be shocked if I don't return... However, my next novel (which I'm working on right now) is art historical fiction, but it is NOT set during the Italian Renaissance -- it's set during another art historical period about which I am personally obsessed. Not spilling any beans about it yet tho! These things take a while to simmer. I hope you ended up enjoying Raphael :) and happy reading out there!

Hi Stephanie! It's all good - I do appreciate that you responded back. I did end up reading your other novel "Raphael, Painter in Rome" and enjoying it as well. I liked your incorporation of the hyperlinks to the artwork in the ebook version - very handy. I'll keep my eye out then for news of your newest novel. Good luck :)

Glad you liked the links. That was my editor's idea, and now I hope to do it for every single book I write. Happy reading!

Go to a movie theater. Watch The Ring. You will never watch, read, NOR write a horror story ever again ;)

OH! TOO MANY to pick just one. I'd love to go tesseracting around universes with Meg Murray in Wrinkle in Time and I would DEF stop by Uriel to play with the Centuars but would stay far away from IT.
I'd also just about DIE to be one of the Bennet sisters, of course, to be at a ball with Elizabeth and Darcy...
Oh and to be a witch at Hogwarts... forget being a Muggle, I definitely want to be in Hagrid's creature class or even Trelawney's divination class!
AND take a ride in the Phantom Tollbooth, and be attend a Christmas celebration in Whoville, and be a courtier in Philippa Gregory's court of King Henry VIII (but definitely keep my head), and help build the cathedral in Pillars of the Earth...
And, of course, I have to say, I WOULD love to have been in the crowd when Michelangelo unveiled his David OR sit at Raphael's side while he painted the putti in his Sistine Madonna... Hey, it may sound silly, but I really wish I COULD visit the worlds of my own books and see those pieces of art being made!

I've just finished The Collector's Apprentice by B.A. Shapiro which I very much enjoyed. I also loved a little find by Carmit Delman called Consider the Feast (really dark, dystopia foodie world)... I'm currently reading Tuscan Child, which I love so far. I'm looking forward to reading Meet Me in Monaco (my mother just finished it and loved it), Second Chance Supper Club by Nicole Meier, and of course the Atwood prequel to Handmaid's Tale (I'm saving up for a moment when I can devote ONLY to reading it for a full weekend!)... And already looking for to the Ken Follett prequel of Pillars of the Earth apparently coming in 2020! I could go on and on, but these are some highlights! Happy reading.

You're going to hate me, but I don't have it. Well, that's not true. I know the FEELING of being afraid that what you're going to write is awful or not "feeling inspired"... but I just ignore it and sit down and write anyway, even if it's just rambling on a page with no real thought like I am with these questions. That seems to do it.
Stephanie Storey
I don't know how to answer this question. It's just who I am... I'm not sure there are "best things" or "worst things"... it's just... me. I can't imagine being any other way... there SHOULD be an answer to this question... Let's see... having an excuse to close the door and not have to talk to anyone answer emails or check social media because I'm off in some imaginary world hanging out with imaginary people...? Yeah, that seems like a good answer.

It's cliched advice, but write every day. Every single day. If you can't do it as a passion, then I guarantee you won't be able to do it as a career!

My next novel, Raphael, Painter in Rome, comes out in April 2020 (I'm still finishing up final edits with my editor at the publishing house). My NEW work-in-progress is still art historical fiction, but all I'm saying about it so far as that I'm venturing outside of Renaissance Italy for a moment... I'll be back to the time period, no doubt, but I needed a break for a moment and had a story that NEEDED to be told... That's all you get. FOR NOW.
Stephanie Storey
I write whether I'm "inspired" or not. I blame my determined writing time for my horrible record at answering these questions here on Goodreads! Seriously, I sit down, every day, and write whether regardless of how I feel. Usually, after a couple of minutes, "inspiration" arrives. If you write, it will come... ;)

My new book coming out in spring 2020 is about the painter Raphael. I've long been an admirer of Raphael's work, but everything I read about him made him sound so boring -- he's so nice, he's so charming, he's so PERFECT -- so I assumed there wasn't a good story there... Then, it dawned on me: NO ONE IS THAT PERFECT... History, perhaps, wants us to believe he was this paragon of goodness, but reality tells us differently: every human and EVERY artist struggles and hurts and strives and wins and fails... LIFE is a struggle... Remembering that pushed me to start looking more closely at Raphael's drawings and life to find the true humanity in him, instead of some artist who is as perfect as his pictures... and BOY did I find a thrilling story...
