Goodreads asked Stephanie Storey:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Stephanie Storey My new book coming out in spring 2020 is about the painter Raphael. I've long been an admirer of Raphael's work, but everything I read about him made him sound so boring -- he's so nice, he's so charming, he's so PERFECT -- so I assumed there wasn't a good story there... Then, it dawned on me: NO ONE IS THAT PERFECT... History, perhaps, wants us to believe he was this paragon of goodness, but reality tells us differently: every human and EVERY artist struggles and hurts and strives and wins and fails... LIFE is a struggle... Remembering that pushed me to start looking more closely at Raphael's drawings and life to find the true humanity in him, instead of some artist who is as perfect as his pictures... and BOY did I find a thrilling story...
