Bringing my imagination to life. Sharing my interpretation of the world with others and getting emails that the words I wrote touched someone. I love hearing that my novel has elicited emotion in my readers. Walking around San Francisco, I'm so drawn in by the old buildings, I feel the need to tell their stories--and I get to! As a creative person, I have always felt stifled by my various 9-5 jobs, so it is an absolute privilege to be a writer. It is my dream job, and my readers make it possible. Thank you!

Writer's block has never been a challenge for me. I'm always full of new ideas! I write all my books linearly, from beginning to end. The hard part is realizing aspects of the plot need to be changed, rewriting scenes or cutting them entirely, and rereading my words until I'm so sick of them I never want to see them again. I'm a plotter, so I know the major plot points ahead of time (inciting incident, midway, crisis, climax) usually jotting them down in graph form on a piece of paper. I don't always know how I'm going to get from point A to point B, but I know what they are, so I have a roadmap. This helps me fast draft. I can write a first draft in a few months time, but then I go back and revise, revise, revise! I also find that writing in a dual narrative format helps writer's block, because when I am bored of one character's story, I get to switch to the other character.

Never give up! Find a critique partner and hone your craft. The first novel you write (and maybe even the second and the third) may not get published. But learning how to write a query letter that garners positive responses, and the bravery of submitting to literary agents are both accomplishments to be proud of, even if you don't get signed. Write for the love of writing, because if you focus too much on the end goal of publication, writing can lose its joy. If you continue to write, submit, improve your skills and to believe in yourself, eventually you will write a book that readers connect with!
