Dave Johnston I move on to something else, or I just forget about it. Often looking at something the next day or the next week gives you a fresh impetus to continue. Avoid time pressures if possible, it doesn't feel conducive to inspired writing
Dave Johnston That feeling when a new notification appears that somebody in the world has downloaded your book. That they might read it. That they might even like it. That all that hard work writing the thing didn't go to waste.
Dave Johnston If you are writing to be a commercial success, then you need to learn to "write-by-numbers". The literary industry seems focused on only publishing existing authors, or brand new books that fit a certain model. There are plenty of courses you can go on to start you on your way.
If you are writing for the experience and thrill of just a few people reading it, then go write in your own style, and to hell with the critics. If you've edited it and produced the best you think you can, then self publish it and other people out there will appreciate it to. Self publishing is free and easy, so why not?
Dave Johnston I'm currently editing Book 2 of the "Sixty Minute Reads" series, entitled "Massacre of the Sixty". I predict another two full editing sessions after this one.
Dave Johnston I only write when I want to, rather than forcing it. Being self-published, I am under no pressure to rush for deadlines or keep pushing out books on a constant basis.
Dave Johnston My first crack at writing was a YA Novel approx 70000 words (yet to be published). I found the process all consuming, and the thought of going back and editing it fills me with dread.
I wanted to make writing an enjoyable art, so I took stock, evaluated my experience, juggled some previous ideas together, and came up with the idea of writing a series of novellas that take exactly 60 minutes each to read.
I now have small chapters (each one minute long) that are easier to manage in individual chunks.
One day soon I plan to look back over that novel ....
