I was inspired to write my book by a friend who said I inspire her? I couldn't wrap my brain around it because she has a business, too, and it's much larger than mine in dollars and scope. I decided to dig into why she was inspired by me? If it wasn't the size of my business, what else could it be? Then I hit on how I approach my business in a much more "balanced way" putting family first and not fretting the small stuff. I have a profitable TINY business doesn't mean it's small (it's not - it's a million + business). It does mean it's intentional and lean by design. I decided to write the book to share what I learned about creating a business that made a huge impact (Time Magazine called us pioneers of the reusable bag movement) and has made me a good living without going big. In fact by subtitle is "you don't have to go big to make a great living." I think it should say "you don't have to go bog to make a great living or a big impact....unless you want to."
I wrote The Magic of Tiny Business to inspire others to get to work on their big give - their big idea. The world needs you!

I didn't, really. I started writing every day, giving myself prompts. I did timed writing. First I did fifteen minutes, then I increased to twenty minutes. I didn't start with inspiration and I started writing and see where it took me.

I'm playing with two things right now - a YA chapter book and a play that never got finished. I'm in the final stages with my non-fiction book, due in May. Once that's put to bed, I'll see what draws me in. I submitted my YA chapters to a writers conference this winter. If that gets picked, I'll go in that direction first.

Write every day. Set a timer for a short amount of time and write til the timer goes off. Stop when it goes off. Start again the next day. Build the intentionality of writing. Writing is a practice. You wouldn't expect to be able to play the piano if you didn't practice...

The best thing is I can do it all by myself. I'm an actor and to do a play you need a whole group of people which means coordinating lots of schedules and sticking to time commitments. As a writer I can do what I want when I want. I like the flexibility and the rootedness it gives me

My answer is to keep writing even if it's junk. When I was writing my book, I had a publisher's deadline so it was easier to keep on task, no matter what dribble was coming out. Eventually, the water runs clean, if you know what I mean? I've fallen off my daily writing practice during the holidays but intend to start again soon. I like having projects. They keep me honest.
