Kat Cho I definitely have a few ideas for some of the other boys in the group! Unfortunately whether more books will be published is up to my publisher (Disney). And the best way to tell them that it's worth it to publish more K-Prom books is for readers to read the book and talk up the book!
Kat Cho Hi! Thank you so much for reading my books! In terms of writing tips, I definitely get inspiration from all the other media I consume. So I just read as much as I can, watch a lot of shows and movies, play video games, etc. Pretty much any kind of storytelling can spark a new idea and you never know when that inspiration will come to you! Many of my writer friends also make aesthetic boards to help inspire them! I also get a lot of inspiration from my everyday relationships. I think a lot of writers tend to subconsciously put things we're dealing with in the moment into our books even if we don't realize it at the time.

For staying on track, I definitely have to do that now that I have deadlines for my publisher. What helps the best is to realize that writing isn't as solitary as it might seem. We always have others who can give us notes and ideas along the way (for me it's my editor and agent, but it's also my critique partners and friends who read my early work). If you feel stuck on something, then try to ask a good friend or critique partner to give it a read and give you thoughts or just talk through your story with you! It might unlock new inspiration!
Kat Cho For now, it's finished as a duology. But if my publisher ever wants more books in that world, I do have a few fun ideas for other characters and their stories! 🤞😉
Kat Cho Not off of a specific K-pop star, but he definitely has characteristics of some of my personal favorites like GD, BTS Suga, BtoB Sungjae, and Shinee Taemin. His visuals would lean more cute boyish like BTS Jungkook or actor Lee Wongeun. The group as a whole is also just a mix of all my favorite groups and K-pop stars mushed together to create unique individuals (but if I had to name my biggest visual and personality inspirations it would be Big Bang, Shinee, Exo, and BTS)
Kat Cho So, if I think I can make a deadline, but I just need to get my head on straight and actually write, then I make myself a schedule. I use different methods, like online word count trackers (pacemaker.press is great). i also use accountability buddies so I have people who keep me accountable to my writing goals. Forest is a great app to focus yourself and you can use it with friends so you're all focusing and working together. But if I think I just can't make a deadline, then I ask for an extension. 9 times out of 10 your editor will say yes, and honestly, these days, needing an extension is completely understandable! Good luck with your writing and your deadline!
Kat Cho Descriptions is actually kind of hard for me too! So you are not alone! What I focus on is what descriptions will have the most impact on the characters or the world-building. So I don't take the time to describe something that is well-known (e.g. I'm not explaining what an average school bus looks like). But I do describe things that help me world-build in a dynamic way, like explaining what Korean food carts look and smell like on the streets of Seoul. I also think, what's something my characters would notice or make note of? So that the descriptions feel authentic to the POV of the characters. (Also, something to do is make sure you don't forget to remember that how things smell is an interesting way to describe things sometimes. AKA use all five senses to describe things)
Kat Cho Sorry! I don't have any planned books coming out in 2021! I do have my webcomic that I co-wrote out now with new episodes posted on Webtoons every other Monday FREE HEXEL about a high school band that accidentally frees a K-pop idol from a secret portal machine (LoL I know it sounds weird, but I promise it's fun!) And then my next novel is ONCE UPON A K-PROM coming out at the beginning of 2022
Kat Cho Currently, it's just planned as a duology (with Wicked Fox and Vicious Spirits) but if I get a chance to write more I'd love to explore some more side characters from both books!
Kat Cho Yes! I'm already writing a short story for a paranormal romance anthology called ETERNALLY YOURS edited by Patrice Caldwell. And stay tuned for more news soon!
Kat Cho Definitely! There are new books I'm working on now, and we just announced a fun paranormal anthology, Eternally Yours, that I'm contributing a short story to! I'm really looking forward to Where Dreams Descend, We Are Not Free, and Beyond the Ruby Veil in 2020!
Kat Cho Yes! The sequel to Wicked Fox is called Vicious Spirits (out Aug 18, 2020) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Kat Cho Red, White and Royal Blue. Hot Dog Girl. The Beautiful. These Witches Don't Burn.
Kat Cho Unfortunately, there are no current plans to translate it, but I'm hopeful!
Kat Cho It was originally titled GUMIHO, which you can still find on the International versions as GUMIHO: WICKED FOX
Kat Cho The plan is for sometime in late summer 2020!
Kat Cho There is both a domestic/USA version and an international version. The international version has the GUMIHO: WICKED FOX title and the version that's sold in the US has just WICKED FOX
Kat Cho I really wanted to tell a story that was rooted in Korean culture and set in Korea. I’d heard variations of the story about the gumiho when I was younger, but it was reintroduced to me as an adult via K-dramas. I was really into the idea of taking this story about an evil, female fox and turning it on its head (kind of how vampires got their own POV in YA stories). I also really wanted to tell a story that was rooted in Korean mythology and culture. There were a few real life inspirations like my time in Seoul and my upbringing. After seeing so many other amazing Asian and diverse authors writing authentic stories about their culture, I gained the courage into include some of my own experiences in a book that involved my own roots.
Kat Cho Since I was really young (maybe 5?) But I didn't get more serious about my writing until I was a teenager when I wrote my first full-length novel.
