What is your inspiration in writing GUMIHO?

Kat Cho I really wanted to tell a story that was rooted in Korean culture and set in Korea. I’d heard variations of the story about the gumiho when I was younger, but it was reintroduced to me as an adult via K-dramas. I was really into the idea of taking this story about an evil, female fox and turning it on its head (kind of how vampires got their own POV in YA stories). I also really wanted to tell a story that was rooted in Korean mythology and culture. There were a few real life inspirations like my time in Seoul and my upbringing. After seeing so many other amazing Asian and diverse authors writing authentic stories about their culture, I gained the courage into include some of my own experiences in a book that involved my own roots.
