Charissa Weaks Hi Christina! Raina uses sign language for all communication and magick. This is from chapter one:

But unlike the other witches in the vale, I’ve never feared being chosen. Witch Walkers sing their magick, in Elikesh, the language of the Ancient Ones. Born without the ability to speak, I learned to weave magickal constructions by translating Elikesh using the language Mother taught me—a language of signs spoken with hands.

Hope this helps!

And yes, there are additional POV’s in City of Ruin :)

Thank you for reading and so glad you enjoyed the story!

Charissa Weaks Back in 2017, I decided to put together an anthology based around the Wheel of the Year/pagan festivals. The old ways are very interesting to me. The first anthology’s theme was vampires and was set around the Winter Solstice. That book was published in December of 2018 and contained short stories, novelettes, and novellas from all genres and many talented authors. I knew that the 2019 volume would center around Mabon/Autumnal Equinox and witchcraft/witches. So the seeds for The Witch Collector were born then.
I didn't realize it until after I'd written the book, but my mom inspires a lot of the elements in my storytelling. She was a special needs educator for twenty-five years and also a music/piano teacher. When I was young, she learned ASL in order to translate song lyrics.
Charissa Weaks We have a ghost in our house. I would really love to know how they came to be here. There's an old battlefield nearby, but we also own several antique items, and I've often wondered if it came here that way.
Charissa Weaks I can do it in ONE: The woman woke to a world with no books.
Charissa Weaks Hi Alexander!! Oh yes. And I've edited books for others where the ending had to change. I'm a plotter, but sometimes things evolve as we write.
Charissa Weaks Hi Gee! I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this. I have a copy I can send you if you'd still like it. You can shoot me an email at charissaweaksauthor (at) gmail (dot) com. Thank you!!! <3
Charissa Weaks Hi Lewis! So sorry that I'm just now seeing this. Thank you so much for inquiring. I have a free novella on my website that you can always snag. My first book release, The Witch Collector, is slated for 9/28/21, but it's more epic fantasy/fantasy romance. I write historical fantasy, time travel, and speculative fiction. The Witch Collector is part of a trilogy. City of Ruin and A Gods' War are the other two books in the series. As for an agent, I highly recommend researching the website Manuscript Wish List and also Query Tracker. Those two sites might help you navigate the agent/publisher search. Best of luck, and thanks again for getting in touch!
Charissa Weaks Hi Tammy! I'm so sorry that I'm just now seeing this. Thank you so much for asking about the series :) City of Ruin releases on 8/9/22 and A God's War will release in 2023. Thanks again!!! <3
Charissa Weaks I'm finishing the final polish on my novel The Traveler, working on a dark fantasy novella, and writing a paranormal romance. I also have a few short stories on submission.
Charissa Weaks Ah. 1) Don't give up. 2) Read widely. 3) Study the craft of writing. 4) Know what you as a reader LOVE. Then arrange those elements into your work. 5) Ignore naysayers. 6) Find a writing community. 7) Don't give up. Did I already say that? 😉
Charissa Weaks When people love your work or get completely invested in your characters. There's nothing better than readers asking for more.
Charissa Weaks I read!! And just give it time. The dam always breaks eventually.
Charissa Weaks I wrote the first scenes of my short story, Haven, in 2013. It was what I call free writing. It sat hidden away in my computer until I saw the announcement for the Romantic Times short story contest. I then played with what content I already had, which was strictly post-apocalyptic, and added a fantasy element while intensifying the romance. It worked!
