Sasha Greene It's always a thrill when people say they've read my writing and really liked it; I don't think I'll ever get used to that. It's just the thought of putting out stories into the world which people enjoy reading which is so satisfying. Reading books has given me a lot of pleasure in my life and has got me through some difficult times so the thought that my books might be doing the same for someone else is very exciting.
Sasha Greene I don't often get writer's block but I think that's just because I have so little time to write around my day job so by the time I actually sit down to write then ideas are usually bursting out of my head. Sometimes though when I'm trying to work out how a particular piece of the story should go and it doesn't seem to be working I'll just leave it and come back to it the next week as an idea will usually pop into my head while I'm doing something totally different (leaving me scrabbling for something to write it down...)
Sasha Greene Read lots of books and watch lots of films; it's all research into how to tell a good story.
Write what's in your heart; don't try to put yourself into a box that you're not suited for just because you think it might be profitable.
Finish the book before looking at it too critically; you can't edit a blank page, and first drafts are generally rubbish. Don't compare your first draft with all your favourite books; they have been through the editing process with editors who know what they are doing.
I've also found the Bestseller Experiment podcast very useful; it's definitely worth the subscription for the Deep Dive episodes if you can afford it, but if not then half of their episodes are free for anyone to listen to.
Sasha Greene I think I'm quite happy to just experience them through books! I like living in the real world. However it would be interesting to go back in time to some points in history and see what it was really like.
Sasha Greene I'm working on a sequel to Something Like Happy...so watch this space!
Sasha Greene I get inspired by all the people who are so open about their struggles with mental health. And by people that I meet. Everyone has a story to tell.
Sasha Greene Something Like Happy revolves around a simple list of things which Jade gives to Nick to try and help him to be happy. I wanted to make the book about simple everyday things, such as reading a good book, or going to look at a stunning view. I also wanted to write about mental health and the two things just came together in the book.
