I personally do not consider the Holy Bible to be fictional, but I know many others that do. I would like to travel back to that time, see for myself, and return with answers.

WARNING: NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
I knew it was pitch black without opening my eyes, but it was peaceful, a soft satin bed and the strong smell of lilies. When I noticed a light strip of silk fabric pressing softly on my nose, the reality of my precarious situation settled over me with the weight of the earth.

Summers in Japan are pretty short. I spent most of it trying to figure out Faulkner's The Sound and The Fury without extraneous input. In my opinion, it just can't be done. That's a challenge for anyone who hasn't read the cheat sheets. Review coming.

Ride my horse or take a hike - put writing out of my head entirely. Do anything you love to give your brain the rest it needs, then come back fresh - with a pot of coffee, of course.

Never, ever give up. Actually, that advice comes from a death-row inmate. Yikes. But it's true for authors as well. The biggest reason people never get published is they don't finish. And no, writing a first draft is not finishing. It's only the beginning. Going back to edit again and again is where the real work begins. If you have friends willing to read and give advice, that is a very special blessing.

I am currently writing an epistolary novel. This time my protagonist is a female. I could write more but don't want to give the story away just yet. Maybe soon.

I love watching people - life. You can learn so much about people by taking a good, long train ride. That's where I love to think and write.

My father was an attorney in Tokyo. Of course, he never told me very much about his cases, but I watched him closely and followed some of his noteworthy cases (especially the criminal cases!!). One day when I was a teenager, I was discussing a family matter with him that I found embarrassing. I wanted him to make it go away, telling him that I thought it could bring a shadow over our family name. "All families have secrets, my dear," was his reply. Since that I day, I learned little by little just how true those words are. The Watanabe Name is about a man who struggles all his life with one of those terrible secrets.
