Read books in the same genre that you write in. Ask yourself what you enjoyed about those books, and what you didn't. Is there a gap in the market that you could fill? For example, are there enough diverse characters in the genre? Or is there an over-used location or relationship set-up? What could you bring to the genre? Then write that book.
