What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Ellie Pilcher Read books in the same genre that you write in. Ask yourself what you enjoyed about those books, and what you didn't. Is there a gap in the market that you could fill? For example, are there enough diverse characters in the genre? Or is there an over-used location or relationship set-up? What could you bring to the genre? Then write that book.
