Kaytlin Phillips Hi Rose! Sometimes. I always create a playlist for each project I'm writing with songs with lyrics, but some days the lyrics aren't working and then I generally just look up a fantasy instrumental playlist (or movie soundtracks such HTTYD, LotR, and Narnia). Whatever the case, 99% of the time I'm listening to music when I write. :)
Kaytlin Phillips Oh good question! Here are some of my favorites (though most are not from when I was 13 because I only read classics until I was 16...lol...)

Anne of Green Gables
Little Women
The Wingfeather Saga
The Green Ember Series
The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic
Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes (so you can read the sequel below)
Sophie Quire and the Last Story Guard
Spark
Romanov
Fawkes
Endling Series

and I probably have more. I have a list off my favorite MG fantasies on my blog, www.sisters-three.com and I'm going to post a list of my favorite YA and NA fantasies soon as well.
Kaytlin Phillips So sorry, just saw this. I mainly manage my account on my phone and the notifications for questions don't always come through.
I write Middle Grade and Young Adult fantasy right now. Though I love trying out new genres and have even written a short historical fiction piece and a few YA contemporary short stories for the Seize the World Anthologies.
But right now I'm working on releasing two YA fantasies this year. First is 'Trail of Assassins' book 3 in The Dragon Prince Chronicles releasing on Sept. 6th and then 'Emberling' book 1 in The Chronicles of Uriu which is releasing on Nov. 19th.
Kaytlin Phillips Yep! Hmm, I love where I live on the western tip! The Blue Ridge Parkway and just nature and hiking in general that is available in my area!
Kaytlin Phillips Currently I'm working on a YA Fantasy/Romance. I'm super excited about the project and can't wait to finish the first draft!
Kaytlin Phillips It was pretty cool to be able to collaborate with them on this project! So, how we've always done it is that I'm the official typer, because I'm faster, and we all give ideas. We walk our dog four times a day so we talk over plot problems, act out dialogue, and plan future events while we walk, that is if we don't get distracted planning other projects. But we sit down and write together, all adding pieces to the dialogue and descriptions and making the story a group project on every level! Using each others' strengths and helping each other in our weak areas.
Kaytlin Phillips I just now saw this, sorry.
But in answer to your question growing up I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder! I read the Little House Series like eight times before I turned thirteen. Laura Ingalls Wilder is still dear to my heart, as are all the classic authors I read growing up, but now it's hard to choose a favorite. I love S. D. Smith, Andrew Peterson, Jennifer Neilsen, Kristina Hall, Vanessa Hall, Dusti Bowling, H. S. J. Williams, Grace A. Johnson...and my list could keep going. I respect the styles all these authors use and adore the stories they create! (I'm also way more indecisive than I used to be...lol....)
Thank you for the question!
Kaytlin Phillips My most recent book is a Western set in Kansas and I got the idea when my family took a trip to New Mexico, we passed through Oklahoma and the sunset was beautiful! We stayed in a ranch house and I thought, hey I want to write a Western set in Oklahoma! So I started the book there and went to work on it when I got home, I'd say I'm halfway through. And the reason it is now set in Kansas instead of Oklahoma is that after researching I found that Oklahoma was Tribal land during the time period I wanted to set the book, so now it's Kansas, which I've also driven through...lol...
Kaytlin Phillips Oh, that's a hard one...I like both, and have WIPs in both first and third person...really I can't say. I love writing in both, I guess it depends on what the book is about and how close I want to get to the character.
Thanks for the question, Saraina!
Kaytlin Phillips Sometimes an idea dances into my head out of the blue, sometimes it's something that happened in my life, and other times it's a song. I never know when inspiration will strike next.
Kaytlin Phillips Be open to criticism. Not criticism from everyone but from people you trust. If we're not willing to learn we'll get nowhere.
Kaytlin Phillips I usually read over what I already have written to get new inspiration for the scene I'm stuck on, then turn on my playlist and start wrtiting. It may not be the best thing I ever wrote, but it gets me back in the groove.
