Wouldn't it be so cool if I had a cool answer for this? Alas, I don't—I was just pacing the driveway and the idea popped to mind. But I would say that a lot of it is inspired by shows like My Hero Academia and the MCU. I love books that feel like watching an anime or superhero movie!

It's a very collaborative process—after I get the book in a workable state, she reads it and looks for scenes she'd like to illustrate. We go back and forth to get the final rundown, and I make a document with the scenes in question to make it easier for her. Then she shows me rough sketches, I provide feedback, and so on and so forth.
Many of the character design choices, like the jagged, lightning-like streak in Victor's hair, were her idea!
