For me, writer's block could mean a few different things. If I am in between books, it might mean that my creative well is dried up. In that case, I need to go somewhere or do something that inspires me, even if that is just going to the beach or to a movie. If I am in the middle of a book and I stop short, it means something is wrong in the story. Then I send the manuscript to my Kindle and read the book from the beginning as a reader rather than the writer. Readers often know instinctively where the story should go, and I am a reader as well as a writer!

The convenience of office hours and dress code! I still have a full time day job where I work for corporate America from 9-5 Monday-Friday. At night and on the weekend, I can put on my writing clothes (T-shirt, shorts, yoga pants--whatever is comfortable) and I can write at all hours of the day and night if I need to. Often I will work on a book before heading to the day job and the continue at night after coming home. It's a labor of love, and I hope someday soon I can do it full time.

Write the story your heart leads you to write and don't worry about what's popular. The hot new trends all arose from writers who dared to be unique and true to themselves!

The final edits for KERRIGAN'S LAW and a new Victorian historical trilogy that will be dark and sexy. My Westerns tend to be funny, so changing the tone for the next book keeps me fresh!

I'll be doing something else, and suddenly I will hear my characters' voices in my head and feel the tug toward my office. I am driven to tell this story. It's what I have always done and will continue to do for the rest of my life.

I've loved the town of Burr I created in my Western historical romance DONOVAN'S BED so much that I wanted to continue the series beyond THE LAWMAN'S SURRENDER. The natural heroine for the next book would be Marianne Westerly, the reverend's daughter, and I brought in a bounty hunter with a tortured soul for the romance. That book, KERRIGAN'S LAW, is due out in October 2017.
