If you have any questions about where I got my flair for drama, just imagine that scenario on a Saturday night when four teen-aged girls need to get ready for their dates all at the same time.

‘Nuff said.

So, I am the writer in the family, though I always had a secret dream to be a torch singer. You know, like Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys. My voice is OK, but the only place I feel comfortable singing is in the shower, so that was out. Besides, my sister Kate would kill me. She’

In that case, I need to go somewhere or do something that inspires me, even if that is just going to the beach or to a movie. If I am in the middle of a book and I stop short, it means something is wrong in the story. Then I send the manuscript to my Kindle and read the book from the beginning as a reader rather than the writer. Readers often know instinctively where the story should go, and I am a reader as well as a writer!(less)

At night and on the weekend, I can put on my writing clothes (T-shirt, shorts, yoga pants--whatever is comfortable) and I can write at all hours of the day and night if I need to. Often I will work on a book before heading to the day job and the continue at night after coming home. It's a labor of love, and I hope someday soon I can do it full time.(less)

Now you'd think after all those years and all those books, I'd be familiar with my process Read more of this blog post »
