Thank you! I'm definitely interested in going back to Crichton's worlds in the future, and Andromeda in particular. I do have my own worlds to tend to, but I found the fit with Crichton was natural and the response really positive. I'd love to go back. :)

Hi Matt -- We are working on setting up the novel for film or television but we don't have anything to announce yet. I'd love to see it too! :)

Thank you so much! I'd love to revisit that world in another full novel. You may already know that I recently wrote a new short story about Elena (my favorite), called One for Sorrow. It appeared in my collection "Guardian Angels & Other Monsters." Unfortunately, I don't have a timeline on that right now. To be honest, I'm mulling pitching it as a television series... Wish I had a more definitive answer, but for now my focus is on finalizing The Andromeda Evolution (which will be out November 12th 2019)!!!

Hey, thanks! Clockwork Dynasty was inspired by the stories my grandfather (a WWII vet) used to tell me, and just by thinking about what kind of amazing advances ancient civilizations might have made. Also, I wanted to write a novel where the robots built civilizations instead of destroying them :) Hope you enjoy!

Like if Rhodes hadn't been sacked by Caspius? They were developing steam engines and all kinds of amazing tech.

This question is three years old, and hilariously, the answer then is the same as now... it's a work in progress! Spielberg and DreamWorks are still very interested in Robopocalypse, communicate with me about it regularly, and have big plans for it. So, I'm in a state of perpetual daydreaming about it, and have been for years... there are worse things...

What I love about the idea of general artificial intelligence is that the end creation doesn't form any kind of natural class like a biological organism--in other words, we have NO IDEA what sorts of intelligences will fall out of the process, if we are able to create them. So, I think Archos R-14 is one possibility, should we reach that level of sophistication... then again, the man once known as Maxim, the horror of Arayt, and the quasi-biological thing called Ryujin are also possibilities, along with so many more!

The theory is that she was originally built to be an assassin... but we'd have to go back more than five thousand years to really find out for sure. Hmm... that would be fun...

I might have already mentioned this, but there is another Clockwork Dynasty adventure among the short stories in my collection "Guardian Angels & Other Monsters." It explores what happens with Elena when she's left at the secluded English manner while Peter is off fighting wars. I'm interested in expanding the series (there is so much potential), but I have so many books to finish!!!

I'm planning on it, but I've been waiting to see what Spielberg does with the movie. It should only be a few more months before I know the next steps, but don't anybody hold their breath. I don't want people getting hurt. :)

I have always loved science fiction, and I was a voracious reader as a kid (to the extreme annoyance of my parents and everyone around me). I also loved programming, and thought of it as a way to express myself. So when I was deciding what to study in college, I figured that making science fiction into reality would be my best bet. Later, I realized I'm a pretty good writer and that it was a viable career. So writing came to replace programming as the way I get things from inside my head out into the world...

I'm not planning a sequel to Amped. However, I have written a television pilot and series bible around the underlying ideas. The TV version goes in depth into the story, pulls in some of my favorite characters (including Owen Gray, Lyle & Lucy, and The Brain), and is generally kick ass. Hopefully someone will buy it and make it!

The long-delayed movie version of Robopocalypse (DreamWorks with Spielberg directing) has been showing signs of life. I always planned a third book to make this a trilogy and wrap everything up, but I was waiting around to see if there would be a film. I've been burned before, but it looks promising that I'll be cooking on the final novel within the next year... Fingers crossed. :)

Are there any updates on a third novel? I know Covid has thrown everything into chaos, but I've just re-read the first two and I need closure.

Thank you so much for your interest! There is another Clockwork Dynasty short story forthcoming, told from Elena Petrovna's perspective. It will be included in my short story collection GUARDIAN ANGELS & OTHER MONSTERS (Vintage, 2017), due for release this fall or possibly the spring of 2018.

Oh hi! I forgot about this Question section for awhile--my apologies. To answer your question: Yes, The Clockwork Dynasty is currently a standalone novel. But on the last few pages you may get the feeling that I'm planning something more. If the novel does well and people are interested, I would love to expand on this world. The structure to do that is already there, and a sequel is just waiting to be opened like a shiny birthday present. :)

I have always loved robots in science fiction and in real life -- they're such an amazing technology with so much amazing potential. In Robopocalypse, I drew on everything I learned while earning a PhD in robotics to try and scare the socks off anybody who dared to read the novel. :)

Thank you! I'm definitely planning to finish the trilogy at some point in the future. Currently, I'm writing short stories, a weekly series for DC Comics called Earth 2: World's End, and a couple screenplays. But I'm cooking on a third ROBO book, so please don't despair. :)
Daniel H. Wilson
Haven't thought about that. Instead, I tend to think of the robots as the first form of intelligent non-human life that we interact with. Our AIs *are* the aliens.

It depends on your level of self control. If you are like me around books, then... Yes. Purchase and kiss your evening goodbye.

Surviving humans would have eaten their pets early on. :)
