When I was a kid, I read the book My Side of the Mountain. At the time, I thought it would have been interesting to live off the land with my own falcon. Now, I have traveled to more than 80 countries. I try to live the life of Jake Adams (without all the killing:).

I wrote the book The Nature of Man based on a mystery of my grandfather and great grandfather. A number of my books start with a sliver of truth from my life. The only way to write interesting books is to have an interesting life.

You don't have to read the Jake Adams Series in order, but some of the books have a certain timeline that might work better if read in order. However, if a reader wanted to jump into the series with more recent titles, you could start with Counter Caliphate, move on to Gates of Dawn and come up to date with Counter Terror. For an interesting background on Jake Adams, you might also consider reading the three short stories that show Jake in the CIA during the Cold War.

My book Rising Tiger (the 10th book in my Jake Adams International Espionage Series) deals with an inevitable Chinese hegemony over its neighbors in Asia. This book almost wrote itself. I actually traveled the same path that Jake Adams takes in the book, from Taiwan to Singapore to Thailand to Cambodia and to Vietnam in the fall of 2013. The premise of the book came to me while waiting for a flight at the Taipei airport.

Many of my books (especially my thrillers) deal with near-future technology. So I try to keep up with potential advancements in the high-tech world. Of course some of my books take a giant leap forward and the reader must remember that I write fiction. Some of my fiction, over time, becomes faction.

I'm currently writing the third book in my Tony Caruso Mystery Series. This one is a high adventure taking place mostly in the mountains of Oregon.

This is an old one, but writers write. You can't just think about writing, you must actually start putting words to the screen.

I really don't have to deal with writer's block. If I get stuck on one project, I just move on to another aspect of the writing process.
