I wrote the first chapter out of the blue - just trying to write something different. I didn't get the idea anywhere but in my mind.

I've always said that I just sit down in front of the computer and started writing anything. It didn't have to be about my book at all - just anything to get something on the page. It inspires me to keep writing, and usually helps me. However, my latest book has been harder for me to write because it's totally different than anything I've ever written. Write about what you are most interested in. That's what will inspire you to write. Just sit down and start writing. Unless I'm working on a particular project, I never know where it will take me. If you are writing fiction, let your characters tell the story. Follow their lead.
