Sharon E. Rainey I'm ruminating about a book that covers the final 26 days and nights with my father as he lay dying in the hospital. The conversations we had, the insights we both garnered . . . . it has been just over a year since he died. I have been adding memories to the document, but have yet to read it through. the tears still come too easily.

Sharon E. Rainey most of the time, the writer's block comes from not enough creative space or time in my day, so i try to create that period of time away from the phone and internet (and people) to allow the thoughts to flow. if the writing just isn't coming, i try to outline my thoughts so i can get the critical information recorded. i also allow what Anne Lamott refers to as the "shitty first draft." I write no matter how awful it is. somewhere in there will be some good nuggets! and if not, then i got all the terrible stuff out and thus allow the good stuff to come afterwards. it's repetition, practice and allowing the creativity to stir for a bit.
