Is this a trick question? I'm working on a book!
Okay, okay… Seriously, I am rewriting the sequel to "Blood and Shadow." I am also currently outlining a sequel for "As the Crow Flies." Crow's story was originally meant to be a standalone, but I've had enough requests that I am finally giving in to one of the possibilities I've had floating around in my head.
My nose is — well, not to the grindstone. More like "to the keyboard." Though it's awkward to type that way. Its working title is "Pirate Crow." (Which, in addition to being utterly lame, may or may not be true. I refuse to answer on the grounds that it might incriminate me. Or him. And probably Tanris, who would be rightfully outraged.)

Not being a very adventurous person, I'd have to pick the Shire, from Tolkien's works. Nice, tidy little hobbit holes, lovely views, friendly people. SAFETY… Hahaha!
If, on the other hand, I could choose a place from my own works, I think I might go with the Bahsyr Empire in "As the Crow Flies." Perhaps I could get a job as cook with the new company and see the world… watch the capture of a few not-demons…

The idea for my most recent book, "Blood and Shadow," was born a million years ago. Okay, maybe only several years ago… The main character, Sherakai dan Tameko, began life in a play-by-chat roleplaying game under a slightly different name. I've since changed the world he came from (Woohoo! World building! Maps! Ideas for even more stories!) and even changed parts of his tale, but the basics remain the same. "Blood and Shadow" begins to explore the story of how Sherakai came to be what he is and why. While snippets of *this* story were present in the old one, I've been able to delve much deeper into his past. SUCH fun.

My two favorite ways are reading and music—not at the same time, and not necessarily in that order! Reading often gives rise to "what if" questions prompted by things as simple as a passage of dialogue. Music creates scenes or moods that beg to be explored. My favorites are soundtracks.

This is subject to change without notice, but I'm looking at "The Rhenwars Saga" by M.L. Spencer, "The Cloud Warrior Saga" by D.K. Holmberg, "Malice" by John Gwynne, and the "Fitz and the Fool Trilogy" by Robin Hobb. I haven't started any of them yet! Which do you think I should go with, or should I flip a coin?

One best thing? My answer probably changes, depending on how things are going, but I love the the creativity involved and being able to express my thoughts and ideas.
