M.E. Franco I never pressure myself. Pressure only makes it worse. So I just write about whatever I want to - maybe it's my current project, maybe it's my blog, maybe it's an email. The important thing is to just keep writing. One of my author friends recommended doing research when I get stuck, and I usually run across something that helps get me going again. When I'm thinking about my stories, it helps to walk and listen to music. The exercise seems to help stimulate my creativity.
M.E. Franco I think the best thing about being a writer is all of the amazing people I've met through the publishing process. As a writer, I was not overly social, and it was never a great idea to talk about the "characters" in my head (LOL). Meeting other authors like me has been so liberating. Suddenly, I don't feel so weird, or at least I've found a great group of weirdos to hang out with.
M.E. Franco Do it, but do it right. Talk with other authors to get tips and ideas on how to do it the right way. Indie authors have tons of great information and contacts. Don't rush to publish. It's very exciting to think about getting a book out there, but be professional about it. Get an editor and an amazing cover and start building your platform early. It makes a huge difference. Take your time. It will save you bigger headaches later. Trust me.
M.E. Franco When I wrote The Rustler's Daughter (about the three brothers on a cattle ranch), I meant it as a stand alone romance book. But I received so many requests to write stories for the other two brothers, that I decided to do that. I'm currently working on the second book in that trilogy.
M.E. Franco My stories are character driven. It's like I don't have a choice when it comes to writing. They characters want their stories to be told. Sometimes I don't even know where a story is going, so it's an adventure for me too.
M.E. Franco My grandmother used to tell me stories about our family, and one in particular stood out. It was about her aunt who married a man with two brothers. They lived on a cattle ranch, and they found out that someone had rustled some of their cattle. They went to the market to prove it, and on their way home, they were ambushed, and all three brothers were killed. That story always stuck with me, and I wondered what it would be like having three brothers running a cattle ranch.
