Yes, indeed! I'm hard at work on book number two. I've written a substantial portion of it. That being said, I'm not a particularly fast writer, so I hate to make predictions as to when it will be out. It does have a working title that I believe is going to stick.
If you want updates along the way, feel free to sign up for my newsletter over at benspencer.substack.com. Newsletter subscribers have access to Last Performance at the Three Dragons Inn, a novella set in the same world as The Prophecy of the Yubriy Tree. It's also available in paperback on Amazon. I have also written another novella and may release it before releasing book two.
Thanks for reading!

(view spoiler)[Hi, Ben! When can we expect the second book in The Song of the Burning Heart universe?
P.S. From what I can tell, there will be a lot of deaths in the next book, but as long as it is not Easton, I am fine with it. :) (hide spoiler)]

Hi Svetlana! My apologies for the slow reply. I inadvertently overlooked this the last few times I checked in on Goodreads.
It's hard to say when the next book will be out. I'm well into it, and the writing is going swimmingly. But I write fairly slowly (though consistently) so I would hate to speculate and then be wrong. My dream is to one day make a living from my writing, which would speed things up considerably. Book Two does have a working title, and I believe when all is said and done the working title and the final title will be one and the same. My plan is to reveal the title in my substack newsletter in the coming weeks/months.
Until then, I hope you'll consider reading my novella, Last Performance at the Three Dragons Inn, which is set one-hundred-and-fifty years prior to the events of TPOTYT. The novella reveals the origins of Shayla the woods witch. The novella is available for free through my substack newsletter. Paperback copies are available on Amazon. I wrote Last Performance at the Three Dragons Inn before I wrote the first word of TPOTYT. It really motivated me to write the series.
Before I finished writing TPOTYT, I also wrote a second novella set in Ragar Or entitled Falling from a Golden Sky. I'm going to put it out before the releasing the second book. It will give everyone a sneak peek into life at Kalandragote, which will feature heavily in Book Two.
As for your other comment, there will be some (ahem) unaliving in the second book, haha. Fingers crossed for your favorite character(s). :)

The Brick Mason's Sons is something of an homage to my childhood, although I hope it's clear that the characters in the novel aren't modeled on those closest to me. The setting, however, clearly draws from places where I've lived and worked. I have a deep affection for the land where I grew up, and I wanted to convey a sense of my parents' property in the novel. I also tried to describe what it was like working as a teenager at various construction sites. There are also many baseball and basketball-centered scenes in the book, which I drew from my own experiences playing the two sports.

My current project diverges quite drastically from my previous two. I'm actually fiddling with a few projects at once, though there's one in particular I'm committed to seeing through to the end.
