Sorry about that, I have no idea why the message wouldn't work - I had ticked that only friends can message me so it should have been fine. I have now changed that setting. Maybe it is tied to how authors have author profiles and personal ones, and it's not clear which setting is for which! Now I look inept. :-)
For me, Damnation Alley did what I wanted: it entertained me with an escalating story, and it surprised me. I felt like I experienced a whole world. As you say, it may be flawed, but that doesn't stop it also being wonderful.

Hi Patricia, glad you found me! I'm also glad you love books. I'm a fan of all sorts of entertainment, but books strike me as the perfect balance between taking me to new places, but also giving my imagination enough leeway to create part of the world for myself (that is, imagining how things look and sound as they happen in the story, filling in the blanks). And since I exist in the happy triangle of reader/writer/editor, I am always surrounded by words. Welcome!

Nothing exciting I'm afraid: the MSc was information and library studies. I'd worked part-time in libraries since doing my A-levels, and the MSc was part of going on to become a professional librarian. I learnt to stack books for twelve months with the best of them. (Joke: it was really more about teaching, technologies, marketing and so on).
My undergraduate degree was in English and Classics (specialising in Ancient Greek), though I also did some other subjects such as philosophy and astronomy for a year each.
