Mike Martin I would absolutely go to Middle Earth. My heart swells when I think of Bilbo Baggins and Frodo and Sam and how I would love to join their adventures through magical and mystical lands.
Mike Martin My favourite fictional couple is Guido and Paulo Brunetti from Donna Leon's fab series. Guido is a Commissario with the Venice police and Paulo is an academic and the daughter of a wealthy Venetian aristocrat. Their relationship is real and vibrant and refreshingly honest. They know each other's flaws, but still love each other deeply.
Mike Martin Hi Nicole. You can read all of the Sgt. Windflower Mysteries as stand alone stories. They are in chronological order, and there are connections between the stories, but you can absolutely read, and enjoy, A Twist of Fortune without reading any of the first 3 books in the series.

Mike Martin I am inspired by nature, especially by water and when I am near water. I feel particularly inspired by the ocean, my home Atlantic Ocean. At first it lulls me to sleep with its steady rocking and rollicking. Then it slams me awake like a wave crashing into the rocky coastline. Once I am awake again I have the beginning of a story. Then the characters come to me from the creative flow and tell me the story. I just write it down.
Mike Martin I have just released Beneath the Surface, the latest book in the Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series so I am doing a lot of promo and interviews and book signings around that. But I continue to write for my blogs, every day and I already have plans for 3 more books in my head. I will wait a little while and see which one screams the loudest to be let out.
Mike Martin Just write. Don't let the voices inside or outside of your head divert you from your path. Write often, anything, something, at least once a day. Share your best writing with someone you love. They will be kind but they will also tell you if they think it's any good. Don't be surprised when they love it because they already love you and your writing is a part of you. How could it not be beautiful?
Mike Martin The best thing about being a writer is that I have been given the privilege to be invited, along with my books of course, into people's homes, and if I am really lucky, into their hearts.
Mike Martin I always have more than enough things to write about and I seldom get writer's block. I do however get stuck from time to time. When I do I get up from my computer and I do something completely different like going for a short walk, drinking a glass of water or just looking out my back window at the river. There's always something happening out there to switch my mind from problem thinking to creative thinking.
Mike Martin Beneath the Surface, like all of the other books in the Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series is inspired by the scenery and coastline along the shores of Newfoundland. In the springtime massive pieces of ice break off glaciers near the North Pole and drift down the coast of Newfoundland. Some of these icebergs are as tall as skyscrapers and the most amazing thing is that only about 1/8th of the total iceberg is visible. The other 7/8ths like most great mysteries are buried far beneath the surface.
