Lyle Nicholson Hi Maureen, sorry, I only just saw this. People like to read Polar Bear Dawn first, then Pipeline Killers, Climate Killers and then Caught in the Crossfire. The prequel, Blackwolf Rising can be read at any time as well as Treading Darkness. Thanks for asking, I'll try to monitor my correspondence more often, I've been busy writing my next book.
Lyle Nicholson Hi Andrew. Thanks for letting me know about Brodrick. I've often thought of writing a series on a Monk Detective. I will check out The Silent Ones.

Best Regards,

Lyle Nicholson
Lyle Nicholson Actually, this already came up. I was researching a memoir and was told a story about a ghost standing over my crib. I researched the ghost and found an entire family mystery. I wrote it in a book called Half Brother Blues, Chasing my mother's ghost and finding her secret child.
Lyle Nicholson I was reading an article from England, and a man actually had been given a diagnosis from a doctor that he would have only 6 months to live.

He never challenged the doctor, or got another opinion. He got ready to die by giving everything away and selling all his assets. The hospital called him and told him that his results were mixed up with someone else.

I took this, and added a fraud and a murder to it, which made it even more complex.
Lyle Nicholson I get inspiration form reading other authors and reading about some great blogs by authors. Some of my favorites are K.M. Weiland and J.F. Penn.
Lyle Nicholson I'm working on a book called CIRCLING THE DRAIN. It's about a wealthy man who is given 6 months to live, and has given all his money to chary when he finds out his diagnosis was wrong. He's not going to die.

The doctor who took his charitable donation has disappeared, and the man finds himself locked into a police investigation of fraud, that they think he was part of.
Lyle Nicholson I would say to read a lot, and write a lot, and then let other people read what you wrote. It can be terrifying to have people read your writing the first time, but you need feedback.

There also so many great books out on writing, and Writers Digest offers so many courses that you don't need an English degree, but you do need to study the craft - just to keep your editors happy!
Lyle Nicholson I love the freedom of writing, and discovering at the same time. This is such a journey to discover both the craft of writing, and to see what will happen in a story your developing.

No story ever finishes the way I start it. It is as much of a surprise how it ends to me as it is to the reader. I cannot think of anything better than this.
Lyle Nicholson I did have writers block many years ago, but realized it was really "writing avoidance." Once I get in the chair, and get an idea of what I want to write, I start to see character interacting. Then I just need to fill in the scenes.
