I would say to read a lot, and write a lot, and then let other people read what you wrote. It can be terrifying to have people read your writing the first time, but you need feedback.
There also so many great books out on writing, and Writers Digest offers so many courses that you don't need an English degree, but you do need to study the craft - just to keep your editors happy!
