Christy Nicholas When she turned around, she realized the baby had disappeared. All she heard was his haunting laughter.
Christy Nicholas First, I want to finish writing my current draft. Maybe three weeks for that. Then I have a beta read for another author, that should take another three. I'm re-listening to American Gods by Neil Gaiman as I work out each morning. Then I want to pick up Sharon Kay Penman's latest.
Christy Nicholas I've got to answer with Jamie and Claire from Outlander. They have true love, not just carnal lust. They laugh and cry together, and have a true, solid relationship that lasts for decades.
Christy Nicholas Juliet Marillier and Morgan Llewellyn have shown me you can properly treat history and myth as a modern novel. Diana Gabaldon showed me you don't have to fit into one genre and succeed... even with your first novel :) And Robert Heinlein showed me that characters drive my favorite novels.
Christy Nicholas #LegacyofHunger is set in 1846 Ireland, during the great potato blight. I don't call it the potato famine, as there was no famine. There was plenty of food to feed the people, but it was exported by the English landlords.

Half the population of the country died or emigrated during that time, and the country still isn't up to the previous population, 150 years later. I thought it might be interesting to follow someone who did the opposite journey, traveling TO Ireland during this time. Someone privileged, perhaps spoiled, expecting a pleasant journey and a quick resolution to her little quest.
Christy Nicholas Dreams, usually. I think of ideas in that dozing state just before you fall asleep, and work out the details in my dreams, This is true of my books, my jewelry, and my digital painting. For years, I kept a notebook next to my bed, and wrote down my dreams as soon as I woke up, and that discipline has meant I am good at remembering such dreams.
Christy Nicholas I'm about halfway through my novelization of the Children of Lir. It's working title is #TheEnchantedSwans.
Christy Nicholas Write, write, write, and write some more. I know many have said it, but just do it! Who cares if it's bad? My first story (that I remember) was absolutely horrible. I wrote it in fourth grade, and it was erotic fan fiction set in the Dragonriders or Pern world. It was called Dragonlust. Gods, it stank! Luckily, it burned in a fiery death decades ago. But I wrote. Write some more!
Christy Nicholas When someone reads your book and they say they enjoyed it, it's a fantastic thrill knowing you added something to their lives. Some bit of imagination and a glimpse into the world you have in your mind has been shared, and that's a special thing.
Christy Nicholas I don't think I've ever really experienced writer's block. I've had writer's stumble, and writer's swimming-against-the-tide, but not a full block. I've usually managed to push through whatever barrier is temporarily in my way by just writing. Even if it's not on the novel, I'll go write a blog post.
