Juliet Marillier and Morgan Llewellyn have shown me you can properly treat history and myth as a modern novel. Diana Gabaldon showed me you don't have to fit into one genre and succeed... even with your first novel :) And Robert Heinlein showed me that characters drive my favorite novels.
