David Atkinson I think this is different for everyone who writes - for me it is being able to disappear into a world where I have total control (well to a point - characters tend to take off in different directions from what you intended after a while).

It is brilliant to see something that previously only existed inside your head being read and hopefully enjoyed by other people and I never get tired of people telling me what they liked (and didn't like) and what they thought of the storyline and characters.
David Atkinson When I'm working on a manuscript - at least 2/3 times a week I get ideas from nowhere that know will either add or improve what I'm doing and I quickly note these down onto my iPhone and that drives me to do something with them as soon as I can.

The only downside to the way my brain works is that these ideas usually appear between 1-4 am!!
David Atkinson Just keep writing - Like most things the more you do it the better you get - and seek a professional opinion when you've finished your first draft - someone you are paying to give you a proper critique is much better than friends or relatives who will NOT tell you what they really think in case it causes problems or because they don't want to hurt your feelings.

David Atkinson My wife said to me one morning after I'd dressed my daughter in purple trousers and a fluorescent green top 'God help Erin if anything ever happened to me.' That was the catalyst really for the whole idea. Obviously it grew arms legs, tentacles and lots of other appendages as the idea developed.
David Atkinson I'm currently working on another romantic comedy which I hope will be out next year.
David Atkinson The way I work means I don't often suffer from writers block, as I tend to write 'all over the place' - by that I mean I don;t start at the beginning of the story and work through to the end I dip in and out of the storyline at various places and very often write the end or several possible endings before I am anywhere near finished. This means that if a particular section I'm working on isn't going well I simply move on to another bit and come back at a later date.
