Thank you for the questions Eric.
I’m drawn to Ireland in part because a bit of it is in my blood. Our genetic makeup sometimes drives us. The history is powerful, but I don’t address the history in my books, I set my stories in present times. Also, the culture and landscape draw my heart. The people are strong, the countryside beautiful, the music, literature and other forms of art compelling. My first two books take place there because it just seemed a natural fit.

The Space Between Notes, my most recent book, was inspired by some real life musicians. Music has always moved me, and their music in particular has had a very strong hold on my heart. I created a fictional band and take my readers to the world of touring musicians. This novel actually started with a poem, so it became and novel and poetry collection, the most creative, passionate thing I’ve ever done. I’m very proud of this book..

Follow your heart. Write what you’re most passionate about. At times you will have to be very brave and move way out of your comfort zone. And never give up. The dream is always worth following.

For my most recent book I was inspired by a group of musicians and their catalog of songs. Very powerful, brilliant stuff that moved my heart. For novels in general it’s usually a particular character and imagined event for that character that starts the project rolling. For poetry, I’m inspired by some mood or feeling I want to convey. Both my poems and novels contain strong imagery which always inspires my words.

Having just released my latest book in September, I am still working on promoting that book. But once the new year starts I will be writing book 3 of my Macready’s Bridge trilogy (Walking Through The Mist and Crossing The Lough Between being books 1 and 2). And I have a list of additional projects, both poetry and fiction, lined up.

Being able to engage readers in my passion for characters and their stories. This is especially true in my latest book The Space Between Notes. It’s both a novel and a poetry collection, and takes readers into the world of a metal music band. My passion for this story, and for music in general, knows no bounds! This book opens to readers a world they might not have thought of entering, but once they start reading they are hooked.

By writing. I know that sounds oversimplified, but it’s the truth. Pull out a piece of paper and write anything. It could be a shopping list. Or describing the scene right in front of you. Or the color of the sky. Or a song you like. Pretty soon your creativity will kick in again and you’re back on your way.

Probably The Shire from Lord of the Rings, or anywhere in Ireland!
