Chris Rodell I'd failed at every grand project I'd ever attempted. I wrote "Use All The Crayons!" to try and explain why a failure like me still managed to be happy.
Chris Rodell For my blog -- or any creative project -- I try and go to sleep with one compelling idea. Then it marinates through my mind during the most interesting part of a creative person's day: the time they spend with their eyes shut.
Chris Rodell Marketing my book, "Use All The Crayons!" and keeping my blog, www.EightDaysToAmish.com, fresh and lively. Once either of these becomes enough of a success to take on a life of its own, then I'll turn my attention to getting my satiric novel about the life and death of the last baby boomer published.
Chris Rodell Do even a little bit every day. And make sure you're having fun while you're at it. Never fail to recognize the joy that comes from daily writing.
Chris Rodell Crafting a sentence that you know will inspire or provoke. It's a very recreational way to live. It's just fun. And if you can get paid for it, well, then it's really fun.
Chris Rodell I don't believe in writer's block. My father was an optician. He never suffered from optician's block. Sure, there were days when he didn't feel like working, but he persevered. That's what writer's need to do. We need to approach writing more as a craft than as an art. On days when I don't feel like working, I try and get something down on the screen. Then if it stinks -- and it usually does -- I can change it. But it jump starts the process and usually leads to something inspirational.
