Cassandra Page It's going to sound trite, but the answer is to write; then you're a writer, not an aspiring one. "Aspiring writer" sounds to me like a description of someone that wants to write and isn't. It took a long time for me to admit I was a writer, rather than an aspiring one -- it wasn't until I completed my first manuscript that I was finally prepared to own the label. I understand the desire to put a caveat on the front, but if you write, you're a writer. ("Aspiring author" is a whole different kettle of fish, but the answer about writing is still a good one.)

If you're struggling with the draft of your first novel, the most important thing I can tell you is not to overanalyse it too much. It's a truism that all first drafts are kind of rubbish. The glorious thing about this whole process is that once you've written "THE END", you can take a break and then go back to your manuscript with fresh eyes. That's when the real fun of polishing and rearranging and snipping begins.

Well, it's fun for me. YMMV. ;)
Cassandra Page I've got two unsigned projects on the go right now, both of them complete drafts (at least). One is the sequel to Lucid Dreaming, my adult urban fantasy about dreams and nightmares. The other is a historical fantasy inspired by Ancient Greece.
