Goodreads asked Cassandra Page:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Cassandra Page It's going to sound trite, but the answer is to write; then you're a writer, not an aspiring one. "Aspiring writer" sounds to me like a description of someone that wants to write and isn't. It took a long time for me to admit I was a writer, rather than an aspiring one -- it wasn't until I completed my first manuscript that I was finally prepared to own the label. I understand the desire to put a caveat on the front, but if you write, you're a writer. ("Aspiring author" is a whole different kettle of fish, but the answer about writing is still a good one.)

If you're struggling with the draft of your first novel, the most important thing I can tell you is not to overanalyse it too much. It's a truism that all first drafts are kind of rubbish. The glorious thing about this whole process is that once you've written "THE END", you can take a break and then go back to your manuscript with fresh eyes. That's when the real fun of polishing and rearranging and snipping begins.

Well, it's fun for me. YMMV. ;)
