Larada Horner-Miller I stirred in bed to roll over to relieve my arthritic hip and felt a presence hovering over me in the dark. Panic seized me as this monster of a man laughed a hideous roar and I faced my biggest fear, slipping into a black hole of agony as he ravished my body.
Larada Horner-Miller I have been in Ireland and England the last three weeks and have visited castles and this other-worldly land. When I was at Stratford on the Avon, I cried at the thought of standing where Shakespeare stood. I would go to Globe Theater and watch "A Midsummer Night's Dream," seeing it as it was performed the first time.

After one teary night of reading my poetry to her, she said, "Please promise me that you will publish these poems so my daughters can read them when I am gone."

That convinced me I had to do it. It took four years to do it, and at first it was going to be only about my mom, but realized the universal loss is of both parents, so I added my process around my dad's death.
Larada Horner-Miller Inspiration to write comes to me through nature. I live in the east mountains above Albuquerque, surrounded by trees and quiet. That inspires me.

I go to our family ranch in southeastern Colorado and a drive out on the ranch and a chance to sit on the edge of the canyon and breath air no one else has breathed inspires me.

My next writing project will be the biography of Marshall Flippo, a square dance caller who is 89 years old and just retired.

Larada Horner-Miller I have never had to deal with writer's block--ever. I always have several topics that I want to write about, so I have lots of ideas swimming around in my mind. I write about what interests me and that came from reading Natalie Goldberg's book, "Writing Down the Bone" many years ago and using it as the basis for the Language Arts class I taught for many years.
