I've heard wonderful things about A Man Called Ove. I have that in my TBR stack. :) As well as Lady Cop Makes Trouble by Amy Stewart and The Garden of Small Beginnings by Abbi Waxman.

That's a great question! Actually, in my book Return To Silver Bay, the main character, Maggie, finds outs she's adopted through letters she finds in the attic. My own mother found out when she was about 45 years old that she was adopted and it's been a mystery in our family ever since to find more information about her birth family and her history.

I do so love Jamie and Claire from the Outlander series. I've been married 23 years. I love how their relationship reflects the truth in a marriage over time. The rhythms of their life and how they understand one another with a look or gesture. Such brilliant writing and characters.

Reading. When I'm deep into a book it makes me think about what I want my characters to do and where I want my stories to go. And living life - hanging out with my husband and kids. Going to movies, dinner with friends. If I didn't move away from my computer and live a little I would never have anything to write about.

Read. A lot. Especially in the genre you want to write. Connect with authors and readers on social media. Ask questions. Learn everything you can about the business. Conferences are great, but can be expensive. Never stop learning.

I have always loved to tell stories. I love words. I love to read. I love being able to put those stories on paper and share them with people.

I'm a big fan of music. I love to sit and just listen while staring at the sky or relaxing outside. I was listening to a song and I simply saw my two main characters from Remember Me in my head. I saw how they met and where their story began. I played with that a little then worked out the rest of their journey.
I love being inspired by songs because then I can go back and listen to that song when I get stuck - it brings me back to my idea and puts me in their story again.

I deal with writer's block by walking away from my computer. I know that sounds odd. Most writers say they just plow through and come up with something. But writing for me doesn't only happen when I sit in front of a manuscript. I'll go watch a movie or walk through a museum or have a picnic in a park and people watch and play the "what if" game. When I'm out living life is when I get ideas, when I think most about my writing, my characters. I write down the ideas I come up with then bring those to my computer to work.
