“One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other.”

“But there certainly are not so many men of large fortune in the world as there are pretty women to deserve them.”

“When she was older, after ten or so, she could tell she was being useful, but as a small child she was tolerated (only just, she knew) by this whirlwind of efficiency that was her mother organizing a party. Still she insisted on arranging fruit on a dish, or disposing ashtrays around the house, while her mother reduced her pace to Alice's. At least while "helping," Alice did not feel quite so much as if she were a tiny creature on top of a great wave, frantically and hopelessly signalling to her mother, who stood indifferently on the shore, not noticing her.”

“Oh, no, I'm not saying she isn't a nut -- she is -- but I've noticed before that sometimes someone like that behaves quite ordinarily with everybody, manages everything, you'd never think she was a nut, but there's just one person, with that person, she's out of control. It makes you wonder,' said Alice.”

“It was not a question of Philip's having "lost hold." He had never grasped hold. Something had not happened that should have happened: a teacher, or someone, should have said: This one, Philip Fowler, he must be a craftsman, do something small, and delicate and intricate; we must get him trained for that. Look how perfectly he does things! He can't fold a shirt or arrange some chips and a piece of fish on a plate without making a picture of it.
It had not happened.”

My favourite is the "to the pain" sequence.... but I do love the "mostly dead" scene too!

My love for The Princess Bride is probably just a smidge obsessive."
Hey, nothing obsessive about adoring one of the greatest movies ever made.
I was indeed joking about that last bit, but fer reals I was pretty surprised that I had to explain the reference, since he's seen the movie even more times than I have. (I wanted to throw that anecdote in so you'd know I didn't just Google the answer to your question.)
This'll make you happy -- a few years ago, I was reading an article in the L.A. Times about tips for conserving power around the house. The writer said that maybe you think if an appliance is turned off, it's dead, power-wise. But if it's still plugged in -- well, then it's only mostly dead.
I believe this was in the Business section. Made my day.

Oh, yeah -- it's free on Amazon! Okay, I'll add it to the pile!

I'm not sure how it ended up on my phone in my iBooks, but at least it was free.

(snicker) Okay, I'll look for it at my library!

Excellent plan!

Hahaha!! ;) I will definitely not read it. I have way too many other books I want to read, so for now I'll just enjoy your updates. :)

For the love of your sweet sanity, do NOT read this book. My updates are enough information for any reasonable person, and probably plenty of unreasonable ones while we're at it.

Hey, thanks, Anne! I love y..."
Thank you! Regency is my favourite genre but I am trying to vary a bit, of late. :) Love your updates about FSOG, I will never read that book, but I love your take on it! ;)

Hey, thanks, Anne! I love your profile post -- reading it made me excited to get back to my Regency research, though I am enjoying this stint in Dickinson-land!

How indeed, missy! :D
Yeah, I went ahead and took the plunge. Feels kind of goofy, especially since I'm not blogging as much as I'd planned to -- but I'm hoping to rectify that soon!

(snicker) It's amazing that they managed to find hedgehogs doing all the things they happened to be singing about! What a coinky-dink!

Aw, thanks, Alicia! I spend way too much time here, so we will definitely do some book chatting!

Also, fun size and king sized hedgies! *attempts to not squee*

Oooooohhh...We have a JoAnn's near us, but I haven't been in years because I finally figured out I don't actually know how to make anything. Plus the people are really nice there but the store always looks like a demilitarized zone. But...if there are hedgehogs...
