A little (or maybe more than a little!) about me...

My love affair with writing started in my childhood. Books carried me into worlds I never knew existed, and, once I learned how to write, my imagination kept me there. With paper and pen, I could bring people to life who never before existed. With 26 letters, I could create a universe of my own.

As an adult, writing is my way of making a connection with the rest of the world. Fiction, non-fiction, essays and books

Not forever, just long enough to clear my mind.
I usually do something physical—go for a run, mow the lawn, paint the basement walls (my current favorite)—which releases the tension and frustration.
Then, something usually starts percolating in my mind and before I know it, the writer's block has been broken down into little writer's bits and pieces!(less)

You need to have something so people who are looking for those book topics have somewhere to go to find out more.
As for an email list, before you start assembling one, decide what you are going to do with it once you have it: send out a newsletter or info about your book or any appearances you'll be making? Or do you want a media list for press releases? Or a bookstore list to send sell sheets and other book-related information?
Depending on whom your target is, you'll use different strategies to create a list. And once you do, use a service like MailChimp to send it out to avid your email being marked as spam.
I hope I gave you some useful information.(less)

Looking for opportunities while fighting back our fears

Lately I’ve been reading a lot of posts on social media from writers who are frustrated and afraid. Why? Because their writing careers are not going according to their plans.

If they’re freelance writers, they are finding assignments few and far between. If they are pitching a book project, it seems like their queries are going into the virtual equivalent of the dead Read more of this blog post »

“No point in looking back,” her mother had always said. “You wouldn’t like what you see and you can’t change it anyway.” No”
Nancy Christie, Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Although I do remember giving my second-grade teacher a concussion when I hit her with a large edition of Webster’s Dictionary. Does that count?)”
Nancy Christie, Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories

“The meadow was lined along one side with tall oak trees—very big, with lots of scratchy bark. Oak trees are so strong, so immovable—just the ticket when the earth suddenly began to rotate a bit faster than normal. I wrapped my arms around the rough trunk and waited to see what would happen next. Something always happens, it seems. The rotation built up speed like an out of control merry-go-round. I held on tightly so I wouldn’t spin off into the darkness—a helpless victim of centrifugal force. It was frightening but quite exhilarating as well. I stayed like that for hours, my body pressed against the coarse skin of my rescuer, while the earth spun away in the darkness. And the mad twisting didn’t slow until dawn broke over the hillside and cars began appearing on the roadway. Was the world just tired of turning? Or was it all those bodies that slowed it down, exerting some kind of magnetic force against the wild revolution?”
Nancy Christie, Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories

Topics Mentioning This Author

“It is spruce and pine and hemlock country, deerfly and punkie and blackfly country, wool and four-wheel-drive country, loon and osprey and raven country. My kind of country.”
Christine Jerome, An Adirondack Passage: The Cruise of the Canoe Sairy Gamp

“If there is something that you want to do but have held back from just because you are afraid, perhaps now is the right time to do it. If COVID has taught us nothing else, it is that we have no guarantee of how much time we have and what the future holds. Tempus fugit—time flies. It is up to us to decide if we will ride that flight of weeks, days, minutes or just stand there and watch it disappear.”
Nancy Christie, The Gifts Of Change

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
Dr. Seuss, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!

“Passion is the source of our finest moments… If we could live without passion, maybe we’d know some kind of peace… but we would be hollow… Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.”
Joss Whedon
