The Alastor Chronicles is a series around the lives of The Alastor King, Slade Gruber and his two princes—Wade and Jax Wagner.
In Slade: The First Touch, book 1 in this tetralogy, we meet the king’s intended mate, Chiara Silas.

My name is Chiara Silas and I am a vamp-were slayer. My only goal in life is to hunt these grotesque, undead creatures; to avenge the killing of my innocent siblings.
So, there I was, on the run, minding my own business while I hid in his truck. I honestly thought he was a harmless trucker, until he had me naked and kissing in the back of his truck. Things went south from there. He turned out to be a bloody king and I turned out to be Dracula’s relative (ye Gods!). Then he started talking about mating for eternity. I mean, don’t get me wrong. He’s delicious to look at and has that Master-of-the-Universe thing going for him. But I prefer my men humbler and with fewer teeth. Did I mention he’s part vampire, among other things? Also, he looks at me like he wants to eat me whole. Much as I’d like to end up as his dinner, I have a job to do. The Red Moon marriage is right around the corner and I have some serious ass to kick.

“Don’t make me shoot you, buster. Stop this fucking truck!” Chiara’s voice rose to reverberate throughout the cabin. He could hear the panic in the shrillness of the sound that echoed around them.
“Listen, lady. You’re the one who got into my truck, uninvited. I was kind enough to direct those cretins searching for you in another direction. I have a schedule to keep and unless you missed it, we’re climbing a steep mountain. There’s no way I’m stopping this rig now.” Slade endeavored to keep his voice low and steady. She was in obvious distress and he could sense her rising panic.
“You have no idea what you’re involved in. Unintended or not. It would be better for your own safety to let me out of this truck.”
“Not to sound repetitive, sweets, but I’m not stopping in the middle of a steep climb up a mountain. Now, unless you’re willing to spread those sexy legs and release the arousal you’ve caused, I suggest you remove that muzzle from my balls,” he muttered harshly.
“You . . . I . . .” she stuttered. She glanced toward his crotch and her chest expanded with the deep breath, as she took in the sight of the huge bulge pressing against his jeans. “You are a demented sex maniac. How can you be excited with a gun pressed to your . . . er . . .”
“The gun is attached to your hand, sweetie. Your breasts pressing against my arm make me wonder what those nipples would feel like under my tongue. Your smell . . . well, that’s intoxicating and more than enough to evoke my lust. What, I wonder, is exciting you so much?”
Chiara’s cheeks flushed deep red. She’d been wondering the same thing. The constant throb in her loins was disconcerting. Her clitoris felt like it had been charged by an electric circuit as soon as he opened his mouth to speak. She’d never experienced such a level of arousal toward any man. One, whose face she’d not even seen and didn’t know from a bar of soap.
Slade chuckled when she scooted away from him but pressed the muzzle against his temple.
“I hope for both our sakes that the safety is on, sweets,” he said with a sideward glance at her.
She choked on the breath when those metallic green eyes seared her with a brief look.
