In my experience, reading the works of others often opens doors for me, so when I can't seem to get the words I want from brain to fingertips, instead of staring at a relentlessly blinking curser, I escape into other realms for awhile and refresh myself before going back to the keyboard. I started writing at a young age, just to hash out some of the questions in my head. My latest work began because I was studying my own family history and making various charts, and my brain said, "What if you could talk to this person or that person? What would you ask them?" Personally, I have a few mysteries I would love to solve in my own family tree--and I haven't stopped trying-- but in the meantime, I can make up some solutions for Emma! (less)

A little plug

I don't do this often, but I thought I would mention that I have an author page on Facebook, as well as my page here on Goodreads. If you'd like to visit, you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/paulamshablo/

I can also be found on Amazon, here: https://www.amazon.com/Paula-Shablo/e...

I love writing, but self-promotion is a drag. Still, I have no one else to do it for me, so there ya go.

“If you really want perspective,
you have to step outside and back away.
If you spend all your time trying to stay in the picture,
you might forget that you're only a small part of that picture.
Step out and study the other parts of the whole.
If the piece that is you doesn't fit, find a new picture to be a part of.”

“The man who cannot listen to an argument which opposes his views either has a weak position or is a weak defender of it. No opinion that cannot stand discussion or criticism is worth holding. And it has been wisely said that the man who knows only half of any question is worse off than the man who knows nothing of it. He is not only one sided, but his partisanship soon turns him into an intolerant and a fanatic. In general it is true that nothing which cannot stand up under discussion and criticism is worth defending.”
James E. Talmage

“No one has ever become poor by giving.”
Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank: the play

“Women should be respected as well! Generally speaking, men are held in great esteem in all parts of the world, so why shouldn't women have their share? Soldiers and war heroes are honored and commemorated, explorers are granted immortal fame, martyrs are revered, but how many people look upon women too as soldiers?...Women, who struggle and suffer pain to ensure the continuation of the human race, make much tougher and more courageous soldiers than all those big-mouthed freedom-fighting heroes put together!”
Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

“Forgiveness is not something you do for someone else; it's something you do for yourself. To forgive is not to condone, it is to refuse to continue feeling bad about an injury.”
Jim Beaver, Life's That Way
