Reel Time (A Writer’s Real Reveal)

I was reelin', reelin' and a rockin'
I was reelin' and a rockin'
Rollin' till the break of dawn

(Lyrics from the song, “Reelin’ and Rockin’” sung by Chuck Berry, appearing on the album, 'One Dozen Berrys' -1958)

Rounding the bend of an 8 yr.—more like, 9 yr. - journey from conception to completion of 'An Enlightening Quiche,' my upcoming novel in the genre of Women’s Fiction, I discovered I have plenty of time on my hands for reelin’ and rockin’ while awaiting the 2nd eProof from my publisher.

So, one day this week I rocked & reeled I till the break of dawn for the purpose of making a pre-pub, promo book trailer.

Anxious as to whether I could pull off this creative endeavor, inspired by kindred authors I’ve befriended at Goodreads and Facebook, I uploaded Movie-Maker and navigated from my desk, sitting up tall in my imaginary producer-director seat.

Tentative at first while acclimating myself to the movie-making process, I got into the spirit of things and enjoyed myself in the wee small hours of the morn selecting royalty-free music from You Tube’s audio library, importing photos, and adding captions to each one to convey matters pertaining to the book. Play. Tweak. Replay. Tweak. Replay. Replay. Gloat.

Milking my “Pre-Pub Sneak-Peek” for all it’s worth at Authors Den, Facebook, Goodreads, LinkedIn, and Google, I’m hoping to whet the appetite of potential readers to acquire either a Print copy or eBook version of the novel when both are available worldwide on the Internet.

While I intend to promote my upcoming novel through other creative and engaging ways during the countdown to its launch, right now it’s “reel time” for you to get a glimpse of 'An Enlightening Quiche':

Taking place in Beauchemins, a French-Canadian mill community of northern Rhode Island’s Blackstone Valley, the story unfolds through alternating first-person narratives from the perspective of two women over forty, different as night and day, who rarely see eye-to-eye:

Augusta Bergeron - the town siren who engages in morally destructive behavior she attributes to maternal abandonment until she eggs-humes her mother’s quiche recipe.

Lindsay Metcalfe - the prim and proper historian-in-residence hailing from Boston who sets out to preserve the legacy of an impoverished mill, but gets more than she bargains for during the process.

In Review

So this is Christmas
And what have I done?

*“Happy Xmas” (1971) – liberty taken with the original lyrics by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

With Christmas forthcoming, another year almost finished, and a new one about to begin—just what have I done over the past twelve months?

I finished writing my second Contemporary Women’s Fiction novel and submitted the manuscript, AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE, for publication on March 31, 2016. The Paperback (550 pages) was officially published on August 22nd; the Kindle Edition (361 pages) on September 20th. Shortly after the eBook showed up at Amazon, I announced my novel’s release on social media.

Thanks to Advance Readers who volunteered to read the PDF file before my launch party, AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE earned favorable REVIEWS on Amazon, which served as collateral for marketing and promoting a new launch. For my book cover blurb, I chose this excerpt from the first pre-publication review written by Author, Suzanne Kale—“A deep, warm read weaving together history, karma, synchronicity and chance.”

In October, my novel won UNDERGROUND BOOK REVIEWS’ “Pitch Perfect Pick” of the week, enabling it to become eligible for entry into their 2017 Novel of the Year Competition.

From late September until this point in time, AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE has received 13 reviews (one 4-Star; twelve 5-Star) and two editorial reviews. http://tinyurl.com/htkxdox

The novel earned a 5-Star Seal from Reviewer, Joel R. Dennstedt for Readers' Favorite, which I have framed. One of the most endearing excerpts—“One cannot know if such writing comes naturally to the author, or if she suffers from the agony of meticulousness required to produce such an exquisite work. The end result hearkens to the classics for its resemblance to such deeply thoughtful plotting, characterization, and the gorgeous prose used in its exposition.”

Although position will fluctuate, as of December 9th on GOODREADS, it ranked:

1st out of 70 books in the category “Books Set in Rhode Island”

2nd out of 11 books in the category “Must Reads by New Authors”

3rd out of 55 books in the category “Best Indie Books 2016/2017”

18th out of 811 books in the category “Self-Pub or Indie Books Worth the Read”

18th out of 120 books in the category “Culinary Fiction”

26th out of 202 books in the category “Favorite Books Released in 2016”

116th out of 445 books in the category “Food-Related Fiction”

450th out of 3,109 books in the category “Indie Authors Everybody Should Read”

How did AN ENLIGHTENING QUICHE land on 9 lists? Fellow Indie Authors nominated it.
Why do ranks fluctuate so frequently where you gain and lose a lead? It’s all about authors supporting other authors, sacrificing personal gain to help another attain more visibility to prospective readers by nominating and voting. Thus far, favorable reviews and votes have enabled this quiche to rise to the occasion in 2016.
