Writing is just the start...and I hate that!
Writing is my passion. I live it! I breath it! I tried to eat it once, but eating your words is not always tasty.
People want to write. They want to be an author, but writing is just the start. I am apart of several writing groups, and I find it so annoying when people start asking questions such as:
"So, I need something to write, but can't think of anything. Anyone have ideas?"
"I have like five characters and I need names for all of them, anyone have any ideas?"
STOP! If you can't come up with an idea then don't write! If you can't google names, get a name book, etc. then don't write!
On top of that, then people don't want to pre-edit their book. They don't want to take time to create back history. They enjoy the idea of writing. They like the idea that they can say they are a published author, but in reality they don't want to do the work.
Your story is yours! Embrace it! Soak it up! Make it yours, because...it is! Then understand that after the writing is done there is so much more that will be required, and that is really the chunk of it all!
Now, time to get back to writing and working, and get down off my soapbox.
