Stephen S. Power's first novel, The Dragon Round, was published by S&S. He's published nearly 50 speculative fiction stories, the majority in professional markets, including one given an honorable mention in The Year’s Best Science Fiction. And as a Pushcart-nominated poet I’ve published more than 100 works.

He's been a NYC book editor for more than 30 years. Previously an executive editor at Thomas Dunne Books, where he worked on 6 NY Times bestsellers, including a #1, he's now at Kevin Anderson & Associates, the editorial services firm where he's worked on two more Times bestsellers and five WSJ bestsellers. Some have an interesting character, such as Copper Jenny the Steam Witch and her familiar Kettle, but no story. Some have stories, but no good perspective on the events. Others have characters with stories, but I don't know what form the story will take: chronicle of a journey, a letter or address, some sort of report, etc. I put them aside and move on to something else, periodically going back to them to see if anything strikes me.

Often, if I'm looking for something to write, I'll set myself a challenge, such as "no one gets blown up." These can make me rethink old ideas or develop new ones.(less)

I enjoy being able to pick my work from what interests me and
